Leaks Through the Valley
Valleys on shingle roofs are designed to move water quickly towards the gutters. It is for precisely this reason that they tend to get more wear than the rest of the roof since this funneling effect can wear away at the shingles and underlayment. In this video/series of pictures, we are showing the potential shingle damage that can result, as well as the possible repair. The damage can range from missing granules and the darkened wear area on the first photo to completely missing shingles in the second photo.
The repair entails us removing the shingles from the damaged area and placing a waterproof membrane over the damaged area. Next new shingles are placed in the area and any open areas are caulked to ensure a good seal. As with all shingle repairs, we do our best to match the color to the best of our ability but nothing will match exactly once the roof is a couple of years old. Once the immediate area is repaired, our crew walks the remainder of the roof and gives it a “once over” to make sure that there are no popped nails or other areas of concern that need to be addressed. Once completed, this valley repair should continue to move water off your roof for years to come.
