Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing is a great energy efficient material that reflects light and heat, which can help reduce costs and keep your home nice and cool.
The many benefits of this material make it widely used in commercial and industrial buildings in the Fox Valley.
One of the negatives, however, is that over time the TPO will begin to accumulate dust, dirt, and other debris, which will make the TPO darker and dirtier. With its shine reduced, TPO’s beneficial energy effects will be less noticeable than when it was brand new. This is one of the many reasons it is suggested that the roof should be cleaned and maintained every couple of years.
Thick and Thin
Another great thing about this material is that its thickness allows for not only a long life, but also for it to be powerwashed! TPO is both thin enough for it not to add much weight onto a flat roof yet thick enough to be durable and washable.
Here you can see our crew power washing and restoring a TPO roof in Aurora. They first cleared the roof of all obstructions, and powerwashed all the grime and dirt off. Additionally during the roof tune up, they resealed all the worn edges and reinforced the waterproofing on the skylights. They then checked the seals on the boots at all the stacks, and did a general “well being” inspection of the roof.
Since TPO is adhered through a heat welding process, repairs can be made rather easily and quickly. Once our crew finished, the shine had returned to the roof and its reflectivity was restored. It should be good to go for it’s years ahead protecting the home and keeping it cool.
